The White Sox are going to miss Ozzie Guillen. The two sides parted ways last week, after Guillen demanded a contract extension, and the Sox politely declined. And Ozzie walked…actually sprinted to Miami, where he had a new job about 60 seconds later.
By the way, Ozzie, you couldn’t stick around for TWO MORE GAMES and finish the season?
That’s a different story for a different time.
The fact that Guillen has landed in Miami is the Marlins gain. He may never win as many games in his best season in Florida, as he did in his last miserable season in Chicago. But he’s already made the Marlins relevant. Mark my words, the Marlins will spend more time on SportsCenter next season than the White Sox.
And that’s what the Sox will miss. The attention he brought to the south side. I’m not saying it wasn’t time to let him go. It probably was. Three under-achieving years in a row was simply too much.
They’ll always have 2005. But 2005 stopped bringing fans to the park a long time ago. Ozzie was the one still bringing them in.
For 8 years, minus a few exciting Septembers & Octobers, Ozzie Guillen was the only thing that kept the Sox relevant in Chicago. Ozzie Guillen was entertaining. He was honest. Sometimes, too honest. His lack of a filter was a sportcasters dream.
The Miami media & fans are gonna love him.
And like I said, the Sox are gonna miss him.
