IU fans had been waiting since the end of last season to watch their hometown Hoosiers play. Some waited in line all day Friday to get a good seat and the Hoosiers did not disappoint.
Hoosier fans have plenty to sing about as their team tipped off the season as the number one team in the country. It has been quite the journey for seniors like Andrew Fisher.
"I have been through it all, just really excited that we are number one," Andrew Fisher. "It is great."
The team does not have to stand on its head and bang the drum for the hometown team. People lined up and waited all day for the chance to see the top team in the nation.
"It is nice to say, 'I go to the school where basketball is number one, we are better than you,' it is nice to joke around with people," said IU fan Rachael Shinn.
It was only the first game and already tickets are hard to come by.
"It is kind of a bummer, but it is cool to have everyone excited," said one IU fan.
Lauren Swindell said you feel that excitement all over campus.
"You can tell on everyone's faces that basketball is what they are all waiting for," said Swindell.
When it comes to being a fan, Ali Cost is the ultimate, literally. She is taking part in the Ultimate Hoosier Fan online contest. She is ecstatic with the improvement in the program since she was a freshman.
"It is amazing," said Cost. "It is nerve-racking going out as the number one team, all you have to go is down, but hopefully IU stays up on top."
