Bertha Westphal (Aberdeen News / December 13, 2011)

Anchorage, Alaska: Bertha Lavere Westphal, a resident of Anchorage, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011, at the Anchorage Pioneer Home. She was 93 years old.

Visitation will be held at the Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, at the Methodist Church in Onida. Interment will be at the Onida Cemetery. Immediately following interment, a reception will be held at the Phoenix Center in Onida.

Bertha was born in Agar on Dec. 19, 1917. She moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1986. Bertha was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother and aunt, who enjoyed baking, crocheting, embroidering and spending time with her loving family. Bertha's kindness and warm heart were inspirational to family and all who knew her. She will be fondly remembered.

Bertha is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bert Hartley (Houston, Texas); her son, Albert “Corky” Westphal (Anchorage, Alaska); grandchildren: Bert, Brenda, Derek, Jay, Jimmy, Katie, Lynn, Matt, Mike and Sharon; and great-grandchildren: Brad, Brian, Brittney, Cassie, Courtney, Eric, Even, Jacob, Jessica, Josh, Matt, Paige, Savanah and Tiffney.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Legacy Funeral Home, Kehl's Chapel in Anchorage, Alaska, as well as the Feigum Funeral Home in Pierre.
