4-H Members have the opportunity to participate in several judging contests including family and consumer science, visual arts, photography, horticulture, livestock, dairy, horse, and rabbit. Every judging class consists of four similar items which must be placed in order from best to worst based on standards for what you are judging. Another part of judging is giving oral reasons. The 4-Her gives reasons to defend their placing of the class to an official. The reasons may also be written when the 4-Her has to answer questions about the class. The written reasons build memory skills to remember all the details of the class.
