3. Rash guards that do double duty as streetwear

Action sports and high fashion may not seem like the most likely of companions, but in the past decade designers have done more than dip a toe into surf culture; they have embraced the easygoing, sun-drenched lifestyle common to Southern California and found plenty of inspiration.

  5. Aviator Nation's founder always looks on the bright side

Walking into the Aviator Nation store on Abbot Kinney in Venice is like stumbling into a frat house with a feminine touch. Steely Dan, Doors and Grateful Dead album covers and vintage skate decks nailed to the walls, a record player spinning Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," a "720 Degrees" arcade game in the corner, stacks and stacks of foam trucker hats, T-shirts and hoodies spreading good vibes like "Pray for Surf" and "California Is For Lovers".... It's such a sensory experience, you half expect your shoes to be sticking to the floor from last night's kegger.

  9. Summer means multiple wardrobe changes for toddlers

Movie awards show season is over, but for the parents of toddlers, the season of wardrobe changes and costume malfunctions has just begun. “I would bring at least three tops and two bottoms, a pair of shoes and a hat, to any summer outing,” says Theresa Ham, mother of now 5-year-old Cole. As the son of a Jeff-nominated costume designer for Stage Left/Bohemian Theatre Ensemble’s production of “Pygmalion,” is Ham’s son just another overbearing clothing diva?

  17. It's galactic glam on the 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' red carpet

If the premiere of "Star Trek: Into Darkness" is any indication, high style will be alive and well in the 23rd century. The film's cast and celebrity supporters were in full galactic glam at Tuesday night's premiere. Zoe Saldana chose a nude silk embroidered dress with tiered silk chiffon from Rodarte's fall and winter 2013 collection (accessorized with a white and gold hand-knit Rodarte cardigan). Jennifer Morrison was a constellation unto herself in a baby blue geometric sequin jumpsuit from the spring and summer 2013 collection of Edition by Georges Chakra, and Alice Eve beamed down to the planet's surface in a futuristic gold embroidered sheath dress with black silk knit paneling from the pre-fall 2013 Zuhair Murad RTW collection.
