  3. READER SUBMITTED: Historic School To Be Open For Summer

    The Wintonbury Historical Society of Bloomfield announces that the Old Farm School, built in 1796, will again be open for visitors on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m., starting May 19 and continuing through Columbus Day. "Scholars" were taught here continuously for 125 years and some of the original desks remain. The Bloomfield History Center on the same campus will be open as well. The school is located at the corner of School Street and Park Avenue (Route 178) in Bloomfield. Admission is free. Children are invited to pull the rope to ring the 1796 bell that was rung to signal the start of the school day.
