7. Judy Blume, forever

The first time I read Judy Blume's "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" was on an eight-hour road trip over the winter holidays. I was 7. We were on our way to visit cousins and I was squeezed in the backseat with my two older brothers, sandwiched between a collection of teenage arms and legs. The weather was dicey that day, the roads slick. My brothers were asleep, and I was off in another world. New Jersey, to be precise, where sixth-grader Margaret Simon was encountering the first, exciting, uncertain moments of puberty and performing exercises accompanied by the hopeful chant: "I must — I must — I must increase my bust!"

  15. Concealed carry a right, not a privilege

  17. Fest planner: Midsommarfest, Bellwether, Ribfest and more

It's time to put on your art-gazing goggles this weekend as eight art, lit and craft fests take over 'hoods from the South Loop to Edgewater. Soak up some sunshine while browsing the Old Town Art Fair and Wells Street Art Festival, or drop in to a new art, food and "happening" fest called Bellwether from the organizers of Renegade Craft Fair and Vintage Bazaar. Of course, if art isn't your jam, there's plenty of food and music to scope out at Midsommarfest and Ribfest Chicago. From barbecue sauce to sculpture, here's the best of the weekend's lineup. kbernot@tribune.com @redeyeeatdrink

  23. Waiting for a seating policy that makes sense

Q: This just feels wrong — what's your take? Should a restaurant with a completely empty community table outside (all of their outdoor seating) and half empty inside tell you there is a 25-30 minute wait (first time) and 10-15 minute wait (second time) but offer for you to wait at the bar? When asked why we were waiting given all the empty seats, they said their kitchen is too small to actually serve in a timely manner if they seated everyone in the empty seats. We said, 'Why not at least seat us and serve us a drink?' They said their bar was too small to get drinks out while we were seated (but, it wasn't too small for us to go stand at the bar while waiting...). We told the hostess that seemed crazy, and she said that was just the way the owner and the chef wanted to do it. Your thoughts? We like the food very much but won't go back.
