Michael Austin
Century, outfielder-pitcher, senior
Coach Jamar Garner says Austin is "the best player" in Carroll County. He batted .517 last season and made the most of his time on base, stealing 11 bases and scoring 29 runs. He also drove in 33 runs and hit seven home runs.
Brandon Cavil
Severna Park, catcher, senior
A cool signal caller, Cavil steadied the Falcons' young pitching staff through tense situations. His ability to do that helped the team build a 21-6 record and reach the Class 4A state final. At the plate, he batted .393 with 35 RBIs and 24 walks.
Carey Cheek
St. Frances, third baseman, senior
Cheek batted .485 last season and struck out just twice. He drove in 26 runs and had a .944 fielding percentage. He has committed orally to St. Augustine College (N.C.), and his coach says he has "the best set of hands in this region as a high school hitter."
Chad Diehl
Westminster, left fielder-pitcher, senior
The left-hander throws in the upper 80s and drew interest from Penn State, Virginia Tech and Maryland before signing with Mount St.Mary's. A year ago, Diehl was 7-0 with a 3.65ERA. At the plate he batted .453.
Joe Kotler
Severn, pitcher, senior
Last season, Kotler went 10-1 with a 1.75 ERA, striking out 96 while walking just 15 in 66innings. "That's super great by anybody," his coach, Hal Sparks, said. Kotler has signed with Lehigh.
Lee Lawler
Reservoir, pitcher, senior
With a good fast ball and a cunning off-speed pitch, Lawler is coming off an unbeaten season (7 wins, 2 saves, 0.43 ERA). Now he's working on the mental aspects of the game, adjusting to being his team's No. 1 pitcher.
