Regardless of his reason for being there (a basketball documentary), his apparent lapse of good judgment may be the most significant foul he has so far committed.
It would be wonderful if the love of basketball could help bring our two countries closer since both President Obama and Kim Jong Un are basketball enthusiasts. However, Rodman’s potentially troublesome meddling without government approval should remind reasonable people of the importance of staying in role.
It is unlikely that our government is planning to appoint him to be our ambassador to North Korea. Regardless of breaches of diplomatic protocol, his involvement with North Korea’s leader puts a whole new meaning on “out of bounds.”
Whatever we discover to be the back story of Rodman’s interactions with North Korea, all thoughtful adults will do well to attend to the following profound wisdom: If one does not pay meticulous, scrupulous attention to one’s boundaries (whether personal, professional, occupational or otherwise), all relationships will be ruined.
