Roadway resurfacing and bridge work on the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (Interstate 90) between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road is scheduled for completion this week, the Illinois Tollway announced today.
Road work is expected to be complete in the eastbound lanes and the work zone will be removed by 5 a.m. Wednesday, and removal of the work zone in the westbound lanes is scheduled for 5 a.m. Friday, the tollway said.
The 10-mile segment between the Elgin Toll Plaza and Barrington Road is the first stretch of the project to be completed.
The section between Genoa Road and U.S. Route 20 is on schedule to be complete by the end of October, the tollway said.
The $65 million project includes milling off the top layer of asphalt, repairing the concrete road base and resurfacing the 52-year-old roadway with a layer of asphalt.
Other work includes roadway signage, guardrail and storm sewer improvements and installation of additional roadway cameras, the tollway said.
Despite the asphalt resurfacing, the tollway plans to begin tearing up the Addams again in 2013 in order to rebuild and widen the corridor from Rockford to O'Hare as part of its 15-year, $12.1 billion construction program.
