Wichita Heights completed an undefeated regular season after a 76-63 win over Wichita East. The Blue Aces were thinking upset with a lead after the first quarter, but Heights gained ground in the second half to get the win. Perry Ellis led the Falcons with 27 points, while Jalen Love led East with 21.
Wichita Southeast gave up a 41-30 halftime lead over Kapaun in the third quarter, but outscored the Crusaders 19-16 in the fourth quarter to get a 74-72 win. Hayden Harris led all scorers with 29 points for Southeast, but wasn’t the only Golden Buffalo with a big game. Gavin Thurman had 17 points and Reggie Williams had 13. Nick Cook scored 24 points for Kapaun and Michael Martin added 15.
Wichita Northwest needed an overtime to pick up a 46-44 win over Bishop Carroll. Craig Nicholson had 26 points for the Grizzlies. Nicholson was 11-of-14 from the free throw line and had three 3-pointers. Carroll was led by Brian Rohleder who had 13 points.
AVCTL Div. I
Derby drubbed Newton 61-35.
AVCTL Div. II
Dylan McCullough had a big night with 20 points for Valley Center, but it wasn’t enough to stay with Andover Central who won 55-41. Helping the Jaguars to victory was the combined efforts of Adam Wilks and Boston Stiverson. Wilks scored 14 points for Central and Stiverson added 13. The Hornets held a 13-9 lead after the first quarter, but the Jaguars pulled away in every quarter after.
AVCTL Div. III
In the first meeting, Buhler needed three overtimes to beat Mulvane. That was not necessary in the rematch as the Crusaders hammered the Wildcats 75-51.
Augusta picked up a 50-39 win over Rose Hill.
AVCTL Div. IV
With a 48-40 win for Collegiate over Circle, the two teams split in the regular season and share the league title with 9-1 records in Div. IV. All tied up at 23-23 after the first half, the Spartans gradually pulled away in the second half to get a share of the league championship. Doug Burton led the nine Spartan scorers with 10 points. The Thunderbirds were led by Nick Warren’s 17 points and Jordan Phillips scored 12 for Circle.
Wellington outscored Clearwater 13-3 in the second quarter to help the Crusaders to a 61-41 win over the Indians. Trey Vargas did a ton of damage for Wellington, scoring 26 points. Ryan Jenkins added 16 points for the Crusaders.
Andale controlled Maize South in a 54-34 win for the Indians. Daniel Kihle led all scorers with 16 points for Andale, and was the only play in double figures.
Girls
GWAL
Jessa Molina put together a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double for Wichita South in a 46-29 win for the Lady Titans over Wichita West. South controlled the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Pioneers 14-6. Molina was the only player in double figures.
Wichita Northwest dominated the first half to pick up a 53-41 win over Bishop Carroll. The Lady Grizzlies carried a 25-15 lead at halftime and the Lady Golden Eagles couldn’t recover. Brianna Caldwell and Alaina Shine both hit double figures for Northwest. Caldwell led all scorers with 17 points and Shine finished with 15. Sarah Balderas led Carroll with 14 points.
Wichita Heights trounced Wichita East 76-44 and Kapaun bested Wichita Southeast 54-49.
AVCTL Div. I
Derby nearly picked up its first win of the season against 5A No. 3 Newton. However, the Lady Railers fought of the Lady Panthers with a 44-38 win.
AVCTL Div. II
Andover Central had a big third quarter, outscoring Valley Center 15-6 to get a 39-33 win over the Lady Hornets. Valley Center made a valiant comeback attempt, outscoring the Lady Jaguars 17-11 in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough. Camille Gee was the only scorer to hit double figures with a 20-point game for Central.
AVCTL Div. III
Buhler earned a split with Mulvane after beating the Lady Wildcats 46-34. The Lady Crusaders outscored Mulvane 15-4 in the second quarter on the way to the win. Josie Williams led all scorers with 10 points for Buhler.
Winfield smoked El Dorado in the first half, building an insurmountable 25-12 lead over the Lady Wildcats at the break on the way to a 47-37 win for the Lady Vikings. Hayli Smith led all scorers with 21 points for the Winfield and teammate Jennifer Demaree chipped in 10. Lindsay Klein scored 12 points for El Dorado.
Rose Hill thumped Augusta 54-35.
AVCTL Div. IV
Collegiate is red-hot to finish the year with a 60-53 win over Circle. After a four-game losing streak in the middle of the season, the Lady Spartans have won nine-of-ten games to finish the year strong.
Andale beat Maize South 41-28.
CPL
Anna Renyer popped off 24 points for Garden Plain in a 51-29 win for the Lady Owls over Medicine Lodge. Megan Honas was the leading scorer for the Lady Indians with 11 points.
