Nearly $60 million in new contracts and a new business initiative were announced Tuesday morning at a Johnstown Area Regional Industries press conference.

The three announcements were complimented by U.S. Rep. Mark Critz, D-Johnstown — who talked about the state of the defense industry and gave an update on things in Washington, D.C. — for the crowd at the Holiday Inn in Johnstown. Kongsberg Protech Systems and Martin-Baker America announced new contracts. JARI representatives announced that they will be holding workshops to assist businesses in gaining more deals.

Kongsberg

Kongsberg Vice President Greg Platt not only announced new contracts, but also a 34,000-square-foot expansion to their Johnstown location. The contract will help Kongsberg maintain its work force.

"We haven't had a layoff yet," he said. "This gives ourselves stability."

One contract awarded is a $7 million deal with CACI International of Arlington, Va., to provide hardware, software and integration support for the Stryker Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Reconnaissance Vehicle Program for the U.S. Army. They will provide all the manufacturing and support for the life of the contract.

The second contract could be up to $9.3 million. It is an indefinite delivery indefinite quantity deal with the Program Manager Towed Artillery Systems of Picatinny Arsenal.

"We have just singed an agreement to expand our factory by an additional 34,000 square feet and are adding environmental stress screening equipment, which broadens our electronics manufacturing and testing capabilities for these programs as well as for future opportunities," Platt said.
