Tree tapping
The Somerset County Maple Producers annual tree tapping ceremony 2 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Baer Brothers Maple Camp. Queen Maple LXI Hannah Taylor and this year’s maple princesses, Maple King Matthew Emerick will officially tap the maple tree. Barron L. “Boots” Hetherington, special adviser to the Governor for Agriculture is special guest. Maple candy and baked goods. Route 281 north one-half mile past Route 219 interchange. Make left on Sechler Road, right onto Geiger Road. Go 2 1/2 miles then make left on Appy Acres Road, go one-fourth mile, keep right, another one-fourth mile on Appy Acres Road. Watch for signs.
Valentine’s Day dance
Valentine’s Day Dance to benefit the Humane Society of Somerset County 7 p.m. to midnight Feb. 16 at the Somerset Legion. Jeff Perigo and friends will be performing. Food and a basket raffle. Cash bar. Purchase tickets at 814-442-3663.
Steak & Burger
The 5th annual Steak & Burger Dinner is March 6 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 1845 N. Center Ave., Somerset. Reception/silent auction at 5 p.m. Dinner at 6 p.m. Reservations Feb. 20. Proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Somerset County.
Ham loaf sale
Calvary United Methodist Church, 239 W. Church St., Somerset, accepting orders for ham loaf sale. Advance orders are required. Orders must be picked up at the church from 9:30 a.m. to noon March 16. First come, first served basis, until the total is reached or by March 1. They will be sold in pans containing five mini-ham loaves (five individual servings) and glaze. The pans are ready to bake or freeze. Bake sale on the day of pick up. To order, call the church at 814-445-2577.
Craft show
Grace United Methodist Church, 320 Felgar Road, Somerset, (Almost) Spring Craft Show & Bake Sale from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. March 9, featuring the handiwork of many local crafters, a baked goods and crafts table, and lunch. Pasta dinner

Kiwanis Talent Show
The second Kiwanis Talent Show Competition March 2 in the Somerset Area High School auditorium. Talent, be it singing, instrumentalists, comedians or vocal groups compete. Cash prizes of $500 for first place, $250 for second place and $100 for third place. Performances must be family oriented.
Soup sale
The Meyersdale Church of the Brethren ham and bean or vegetable soup sale from 7:30 a.m. until sold out March 1. Soup will be available by the pint or the quart. Home baked bread and other baked goods will also be available. This benefits the stained glass window fund.
