SOMERSET — The Somerset Golden Eagle junior high wrestlers remained unbeaten (8-0) with two wins this week.

 

The Eagles defeated Forest Hills 80-9 and Richland 81-12.

 

Bryce Jano and Wesley Reed were the key winners against Forest Hills. Against Richland, the Eagles were led by Nicholas Halto and Dane Revello pins.

 

The Eagles will travel to Martinsburg on Saturday to challenge Spring Cove, Altoona and Hollidaysburg.

 

 

 

Somerset 41, BM 20

 

SOMERSET — The Somerset junior high girls basketball team overcame a sluggish first half to defeat Bishop McCort 41-20 Thursday.  

 

The defensive intensity was turned up and Meghan VanLenten scored 10 of her team-high 12 points in the third quarter as the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Crushers 19-6. Madison Reeping chipped in eight points in limited action due to foul trouble. Maria Weimer added six points, six rebounds and four steals. Allie Lane, Savannah Gross and Taylor McCall each contributed four points. Lane dished out a team and season-high seven assists. VanLenten swiped six of the team's 18 steals. 

 

Katie Downey led McCort with eight points.  

 

Somerset (4-4) will host Penn Cambria at 4 p.m. Monday.
