7. Film review: 'The Watch' is 'funny by accident'

"Funny by accident."
Special to The Herald-Mail
"Funny by accident." That's a phrase you'll see if you read enough reviews of bad comedies. As in, "With this much talent in the cast, you'd think that someone would be funny by accident." You always hear it as a hypothetical, don't you? You don't read...

19. 'Ted' review: Pretty funny, pretty racist

**1/2 (out of four)

21. 'Ted': Crude comedy doesn't quite bear up ✭✭

Like "The Hangover"and its sequel, "Ted"is a bully of a comedy but a bully with just enough calculated heart to make it a hit. It plays like a movie tryout for a TV series, specifically a Seth MacFarlane series, which means a high quotient of startlingly crude ethnic and cultural stereotypes leavened by a sincere appreciation for American popular music of another era.

23. Why 'Ted' sounds so similar to 'Family Guy's' Peter Griffin

Ted, the foul-mouthed animated star of Friday's R-rated buddy comedy of the same name, may smoke more marijuana than "Family Guy's" Peter Griffin, but the two sound awfully similar. Of course, both are voiced by writer-director Seth MacFarlane, so it's easy to understand why they are so alike. Or is it? MacFarlane also voices "Family Guy's" baby Stewie, the dog Brian, and the next-door neighbor Quagmire, and all three have completely different accents.
