  11. Was the 'Skyfall' Screenplay Crowdsourced?

    First of all, let me say: Love the new James Bond movie, “Skyfall.” Love D-Craig as a bitter, narcissistic, outdated, substance-abusing Bond. Love Bardem as the villain. Love the babes, especially some woman named Berenice Marlohe who I'm going to leave the future Mrs. Markley for. Love stuff blowing up.

  13. Whitney Houston's presence felt in 'Sparkle'

    In one of the final scenes in the new musical drama "Sparkle," Whitney Houston, playing a strict, religious-minded mother and former star, teases Jordin Sparks, playing her daughter that she won't sit too close to the front of the auditorium to watch the girl make her singing debut for fear of upstaging her.

  17. Dark Knight Rises movie reviews

    The long-awaited <a href="http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/" target="_blank">&ldquo;The Dark Knight Rises&rdquo;</a> -- the latest big-screen treatment of <a href="http://www.dccomics.com/batman" target="_blank">DC Comics' Batman</a> -- will hit screens this week, and the early movie reviews are looking good. The movie builds on the 2008 hit <a href="http://thedarkknight.warnerbros.com/dvdsite/" target="_blank">"The Dark Knight,"</a> and maintains its dark, brooding tenor. Though the mayhem is not for everyone (were comic books?), I'm glad that the Caped Crusader has developed into a strong movie franchise in director Christopher Nolan's trilogy. The Superman movies never achieved this sort of complexity, and some other recent super-hero movies have turned into an amalgam of special effects. Here are some excerpts from movie reviews:&nbsp;

  19. 'Dark Knight Rises': A 'Knight' to fray the nerves -- 2 1/2 stars

    Eight years after the camp frippery of &ldquo;Batman &amp; Robin&rdquo; (1997), in which Arnold Schwarzenegger&rsquo;s Mr. Freeze and Uma Thurman&rsquo;s Poison Ivy played dress-up while George Clooney let his nipply bat-suit do most of the acting, director and co-writer Christopher Nolan brought to the screen the origin story of Bruce Wayne and his tortured, emotionally isolated crime-fighting alter ego. Stately and just serious enough, &ldquo;Batman Begins&rdquo; was trumped by Nolan&rsquo;s own 2008 sequel, &ldquo;The Dark Knight,&rdquo; which channeled a planet&rsquo;s worth of post-9/11 panic and pitted Christian Bale&rsquo;s masked vigilante against Heath Ledger&rsquo;s unforgettable merry psycho.

(June 1, 2013)
Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of a stripped-down version of the character in "The Dark Knight" (2008) who is uninterested in profit or power -- he's a scabby post-punk jackal, an agent of chaos who wants to watch the world burn. (Warner Bros.)
