  8. Everybody's Sneaking Snacks Into the Movies

    The Hartford Courant
Sneaking food into the movies starts off small but quickly escalates: First it's the small bag of M&Ms, followed by the bottle of water, the home-popped popcorn, the fast-food meal, the picnic spread … until one day you find yourself grilling. So,...

  12. Marvin Hamlisch dies at 68; award-winning composer of popular music

When Marvin Hamlisch auditioned for the Juilliard School of Music, he played not Chopin or Mozart but the American folk standard "Goodnight, Irene," a choice that could have had lamentable results for any other prospective student.

  16. 2 Days in New York

    Fox 5 San Diego staff
I am fond of Julie Delpy and her work, although I missed 2 Days in Paris five years ago. I also think those Before Sunrise movies were a bit overrated. I was happy I finally caught 2 Days in New York, which had a Woody Allen/Diane Keaton vibe about it....

  18. Film review: Woody Allen's 'Rome' is good but can't top 'Paris'

In “To Rome with Love,” his latest feature — roughly No. 42, depending on how you count — the prolific Woody Allen continues his long European vacation. In 2005, he went to London to make “Match Point” and received his best reviews in a decade. (Check out a list of his previous 10 films, and you'll see what I mean.) In 2008, his Spanish outing, “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” was even better received; and last year's “Midnight in Paris” still better than that, becoming his highest-grossing film ever and earning him his first Oscar since “Hannah and Her Sisters” in 1986.

  20. My Top 10 Shows On Connecticut Stages This Past Season

I remember this time last year when it came time to review the theater season in Connecticut. I felt pretty discouraged. Sure there was plenty of fine work but few shows really knocked my critical socks off with the kind of productions that you immediately want to tweet your friends about, the shows that you would actually see again — and pay. The works that stay in your memory for years.

  22. My Thoughts on Michael Clarke Duncan

    Fox 5 San Diego staff
When it comes to death with celebrities, you get weird reactions. If it’s somebody like Amy Winehouse, you might hear somebody cavalierly say “It figures.” If it’s Phyllis Diller, the response might be “Wasn’t she in...
