FORT LAUDERDALE – The Broward Center for the Performing Arts has welcomed 25 students from 15 high schools in Broward County into the 2012-13 class of Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program.
Open to Broward County high school students who are interested in the performing arts, the program offers an insider's view as Teen Ambassadors participate in educational workshops with touring artists, attend live performances in every genre, write reviews and share their experiences in social media. Participation in the program is also eligible for community service hours.
"Many Teen Ambassador alumni are pursuing further education and careers in the arts, and we love to hear about their progress. For many of these students, the most valuable aspect of the program is the exposure they get to all aspects of live entertainment and the opportunity they have to learn the business of the arts. By immersing these students in what we do, we are confident that they will integrate the arts into their lives, regardless of what career path they choose. And the insight they bring to us through their participation is invaluable," said Broward Center President and CEO Kelley Shanley.
Since the new class began, students have attended performances of Broadway, ballet, opera and classical music. Recently, they had the chance to meet cast members of Sister Act and enjoy a discussion with Broadway legend Bob Avian, director of A Chorus Line, Miss Saigon, and Sunset Boulevard.
The 2012-13 class of Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program includes Alyssa Fantel, Spencer Perdeck, Jake Rothstein and Farrah Raquel Sklar, American Heritage Center for the Arts; Sarah Sharp, Cooper City High School; Annie Leiman and Carly Valancy, Cypress Bay High School; Cory Kennedy, David Posnack Jewish Day School; Mariana Alves, Deerfield Beach High School; Alanis Alvarez, Valeria Hansen and Andrew Nordelus, Fort Lauderdale High School; Ali Soldini, Living Waters Academy; Francis Diez and Samantha Stone, North Broward Preparatory; Laura Herman, Pine Crest; Bryan Schall, Plantation High School; Scot Dalbury, St. Thomas Aquinas; Danielle Jensen, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School; Alison Singer and Kali Rosendo, University School; Carla Corsetti and Danny Thomas, West Broward High; and Helyne Levy and Katie Santoro, Western High School.
The Broward Center for the Performing Arts is located in the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District at 201 SW Fifth Avenue in Fort Lauderdale.
