Australian racecar driver Marcos Ambrose was born on Sept. 1, 1976 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He started racing karts at the age of 10 and won four Tasmanian state junior karting titles. He was the Australian kart champion in 1995. He finished second in the Australian Formula Ford championship in 1997. He then moved to Europe to try his hand at European racing. He won the European Formula Ford Championship in 1999. After financial problems, Ambrose returned to Australia in 2000. He was the Australian kart champion in 1995. He finished second in the Australian Formula Ford championship in 1997. He then moved to Europe to try his hand at European racing. He won the European Formula Ford Championship in 1999. After financial problems, Ambrose returned to Australia in 2000. In 2003 and 2004, Ambrose won at the Eastern Creek Raceway, also winning the Barry Sheene Medal those years. The medal is awarded to the driver who shows outstanding leadership, personality, fan appeal and sportsmanship. He is the only driver to have a round win in every V8 Supercar season he participated in; he left in 2005 to go race in NASCAR in the U.S. He is the first Australian to lead laps in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Ambrose won in the Zippo 200 at Watkins Glen in 2008, his first Nationwide Series victory. He won the Zippo 200 three straight years.
