  1. More Ways Smoking Harms Kids

Everyone knows that smoking is harmful to health. However smoke exposure (secondhand smoke) can also be harmful, notes Adam Spanier, M.D., Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital pediatrician. Cigarette smoke has more than 4,000 chemicals in it, and more than 50 of these chemicals are known to cause cancer. “Children are at greater risk from these exposures than adults,” says Dr. Spanier, “because they breathe more frequently than adults and their bodies are still developing.”

  3. Questions every ER patient should ask

You're in an emergency room. You're worried. OK, maybe that's an understatement. Maybe you're terrified. This may not be the setting in which you always make your best decisions. But you won't get to take back any of the decisions you make in an ER, so you have to make the best decision you can the first time.

  11. The Pet Corner: Don¿t wait until it¿s too late

Just a few days ago, I was on my way to work when I stopped at a local gas station, which happens to be a part of my normal routine. I don’t stop there every day, but certainly enough to establish a friendly and joking relationship with the cashiers at the store. Typically, the conversation at the checkout counter revolves around the weather, politics, sports and, obviously, dogs and cats.
