A man pointed what appeared to be a handgun in the direction of employees at Shepherdstown Pharmacy when he robbed the business Thursday morning at 7670 Martinsburg Pike, police said.
The employees were upset, but not injured in the robbery, which was reported at 10:21 a.m., Jefferson County Sheriff's Deputy Sgt. Victor Lupis said.
Police were told the white male suspect concealed his identity with a black ski mask and also was wearing glasses, Lupis said. The robber was wearing a yellow sweat shirt and blue sweat pants when he entered the business and demanded prescription drugs while brandishing the firearm, according to Lupis.
He was described as being in his late 20s or early 30s and between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, police said.
The type of medication he demanded was not disclosed and Lupis said he did not know how much of the drug was taken by the man.
Police were told the man left the store in a black Pontiac Sunfire with a black convertible top, Lupis said.
The vehicle was last seen traveling west on W.Va. 45 toward Martinsburg, Lupis said.
Officers with the West Virginia State Police, Shepherdstown Police Department, Jefferson County and Berkeley County sheriff’s offices were unable to locate the suspect’s vehicle after a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) alert was issued, according to Lupis.
The robbery comes little more than two weeks after police arrested Jesse Lee Gibson of Hedgesville, W.Va., in connection with the robbery of Xanax from the pharmacy inside the Spring Mills Walmart in northern Berkeley County.
The case against Gibson, who was incarcerated Thursday night at Eastern Regional Jail, is pending in Berkeley County Magistrate Court, according to court records.
The Walmart pharmacy robbery occurred little more than 24 hours after two pharmacies in Hagerstown were targeted for Xanax.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the armed robbery at Shepherdstown Pharmacy to call the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at 304-728-3205. Sheriff’s Deputy G.W. Kilmer is the investigating officer.
