Johnathan Elam, 40, was indicted Jan. 25 for first-degree charges of sexual abuse and sodomy (January 30, 2013) |
A Nicholasville man faces first-degree charges of sexual abuse and sodomy after police say he victimized a woman with whom he had been staying.
Johnathan D. Elam, 40, was arrested Tuesday after a Jessamine grand jury indicted him Jan. 25 on the charges.
Elam was living with the victim and her husband at the time of the alleged incident, Nicholasville police officer Kevin Grimes said. The victim reported that she and Elam each took Ambien, a sleeping medication. The next morning, she realized she had been assaulted, she reported to police.
The Jessamine County sheriff’s office made the arrest after a warrant was issued following the indictment. Elam is now being in the Jessamine County Detention Center under a $25,000 cash bond, according to jail records.
An indictment is a formal statement of charges and allows prosecution to proceed.
