  1. Recipe: Pumpkin seed stuffing with chorizo

Total time: 1 hour, 40 minutes There's more to do with pumpkin than put it in a pie, Test Kitchen manager Noelle Carter found during the Thanksgiving holidays. The rich flavors of this stuffing -- nutty seeds, sweet corn and cornbread, and smoky,...

  5. Dining for $25 or less: Grill Art Cafe

Grill Art Cafe is Hampden's little restaurant that could. The early days at this handsome cafe were awfully rough, with service problems enduring well past the grace period most diners extend to a new restaurant. Grill Art has hung in there, though - going on five years now - and it's evolved into a very decent dining option. Operating out of the spotlight has probably helped, and hard work definitely hasn't hurt - Grill Art serves lunch, or brunch, and dinner seven days a week. My guess is that people started rediscovering Grill Art when their first choice on the Avenue was booked. If so, good for Grill Art for making its own luck.

  9. Dining for $25 or less: Granny's

Granny's is the love project of Valari and Aaron Dorsey - she's the head chef, and it's her grandmother, a professional chef in her own right, to whom Granny's pays tribute. From its early spring opening, the allure of all-day breakfast and Southern-influenced home cooking has drawn diners to its corporate strip location, former home of a hamburger chain, in Owings Mills.

  15. San Francisco's Hayes Valley, epitome of cool

    Special to The Times

  17. Where fairy tales meet reality

I'm so intent on fending off our waiter's water advances at the Republic, the new restaurant on La Cienega, I almost miss her. Two previous visits to the West Hollywood restaurant and lounge have yielded zero sightings of the elusive wine fairy. Now one of my dining companions is nudging me. Yes, there.
