1. Squid lures followers

Q: Some months ago a small group of us, attending a conference at Loews Miami Beach, had the good fortune of ordering their calamari appetizer. It was awesome to the point that a number of us ordered it as a meal two additional nights. It was the greatest cuttlefish/squid (is there a difference?) preparation I have ever had and I have ordered it all over the world. I will go back to Loews again next trip just to have it again. A local friend suggested your "You Asked for It" column as a way to get the recipe. Can you possibly be of help? Thank you in advance for your consideration and kind assistance. Bon Appetit, Steve Asbury -- Nashville

  9. Nowadays, Valentine's Day is less sweet — and peanut-free

The rules for 7-year-old Riley Krieger's Valentine's Day party recently arrived from school: Bring one valentine addressed to each child on the list attached. Make a heart-covered shoe box on your own time or just bring a bag. Any treats for the class must be individually wrapped and, as always, peanut-free.

  13. Watch Bad Lip-Reading NFL: You won't believe what they're saying

  15. Roast chicken to warm the soul

The No. 1 trick to roasting chicken: Heat. For perfectly golden skin, turn on the convection setting on the oven, if you have one, or fully heat the oven to 400 degrees. For moistness, let the chicken swim first in a briny solution of water, sugar and salt for a few hours before roasting.

  23. Test Kitchen tips: Secrets to deep-frying and pan-frying

Done right, fried food is an art. Beyond creating a great crust, a dip in hot oil is perfect for keeping moisture in the food as it cooks, whether you're frying up a succulent batch of chicken, battered oysters or a sweet dessert. Properly fried foods should never taste "oily" -- no soggy doughnuts or oil-soaked French fries allowed -- and should never have a soft crust. Here are a few quick tips for becoming a true fry master:
