CHARLEVOIX — The Charlevoix High School boys’ basketball team got back to their winning ways Tuesday as the Rayders flattened Cheboygan 73-47 in a non-conference game at the Charlevoix High School gym.

The Rayders were led by junior Zach Hankins, who finished with 12 points. Seniors Charlie Hamilton and Tanner Catt each scored 11.

With the win, Charlevoix moves to 13-5 overall.

“We talked to the guys about stepping up each game before districts,” Charlevoix coach Adam Wood said.

“It feels good to get back on the winning track. It’s a good confidence boost.”

The Rayders and Chiefs battled throughout the first quarter with the Rayders coming away from the first with a one point 14-13 advantage.

The Rayders led by as many as 11 points in the second quarter, but the Chiefs would push it to a nine point game at the half, 31-22.

Charlevoix pushed out to an even greater lead after the third quarter, up 52-34, with the game well in hand.

Cheboygan, 9-8, was led on the night by junior Ben Pearson with 15 points.

Charlevoix welcomes conference foe Grayling on Thursday, Feb. 28, as the Rayders close out the regular season.

Charlevoix won the JV game, 72-43, over Cheboygan.

Charlevoix, 15-3, was led by Nick Plude with a game-high 23 points while Austin Putman added 16.

Harbor Springs 48, Suttons Bay 41

SUTTONS BAY — Neal Zoerhof led the Harbor Springs boys’ basketball team with 15 points and came one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with nine, as the Rams pulled in a non conference win over Suttons Bay, Tuesday.

Spencer Kloss came away with a  double-double for the Rams, with an 11 point, 11 rebound effort, while Peter Lauer brought in nine points.

Harbor Springs improved to 9-10 overall.

Neither team started fast, as the schools sat tied at 6-all after the first quarter of play. The Rams jumped out to an 18-12 lead after the second as they headed to the half.

Suttons Bay kept things close in the second half, as the Rams led after the third quarter, 27-22.

Even after a four game win streak and having won five of their last six, Harbor coach Geoff Morse knows there’s still room for improvement as the regular season comes to a close.
