KALKASKA — Jordan Weber scored 15 points as East Jordan picked up a Lake Michigan Conference win over Kalkaska, 62-41, Wednesday.

“We shot the ball well in the first half, hitting seven of our 10 3-pointers,” East Jordan coach Darrin Weber said.  “We were also able to create turnovers on defense.”

The Red Devils led all the way including at halftime, 38-28.

East Jordan, 4-13 overall, 2-11 league, would limit Kalkaska to just six third quarter points while scoring 14 to end the third quarter up, 52-34.

For Kalkaska, Caleb Gelinas scored 11 points.

Also for East Jordan, Matt Bolser scored 11 points, Colin Petrie added 10 points and Noah Bacchus dished out eight assists.

The Red Devils travel to Grayling on Friday, Feb. 22.

Grayling 73, Charlevoix 48

GRAYLING — Charlie Hamilton’s 15 points for the Charlevoix boys’ basketball team weren’t enough to push the Rayders past Grayling Wednesday as the Rayders dropped the Lake Michigan Conference meeting in the Grayling High School gym.

Zach Hankins finished the night with 12 points for Charlevoix, who sat tied at 9-2 in league play with Grayling before the game.

With the loss, the Rayders fall to 12-4 overall, 9-3 in the league.

The game was tied at 12-all after the first quarter, but Grayling quickly took the lead in the second and eventually took the lead at the half, 36-27, thanks to some costly Charlevoix turnovers.

“In the second quarter we really started to turn the ball over,” Charlevoix coach Adam Wood said. “Defensively, I thought we did not match up well.”

Grayling would extend their lead in the second half including 55-35 at the end of three quarters of play, pushing the game out of reach for the Rayders.

Jake Swander led Grayling, 13-4, 10-2, with 16 points.

Charlevoix will need to rebound quickly from the loss, with a matchup against league-leading and Associated Press Class C No. 2 ranked Traverse City St. Francis coming on Friday, Feb. 22.

“We don’t have enough time to dwell on it, we’ve got to get back and prep for Traverse City,” Wood said.
