  7. Ed Koch To Albany: "Throw the Bums Out"

New York's 105th Mayor believes the timing is right for change in Albany. This Sunday's guest on PIX News Closeup, Ed Koch maintains that he's sick and tired of state government being crippled by a dysfunctional legislature. He's trying to do something about it, he says by launching a campaign, "New York Uprising" to, in his words, "throw the rascals out." He's formed a coalition with good government groups and the Citizens Union to spearhead a drive to bring change to the state capitol. He's specifically targeting legislators who are not committed to reform. "I don't believe the good ones are good enough, and the bad ones are evil," he maintains, and adds, "I want legislators who are willing to have a balanced budget without gimmicks and who are willing to impose a real ethics bill." Koch believes in this year of anti-incumbent sentiment among voters, the Republicans could regain control of the state senate. The outspoken former mayor would still like to see Governor Paterson step down and turn over the government process to Lt. Governor Richard Ravitch. He support's Ravitch's budget plan that involves some borrowing, but would result in a balanced budget at the end of five years.
