1. Unfair fuel standard leaves a bad taste

Whether you're barbecuing in Baltimore, in Bel Air or on the bay this Memorial Day, you will pay more for staple foods because our federal government continues to pit food versus fuel. Thanks to an unworkable federal energy policy, prices for animal...

  3. Baltimore mayor officiates at lobbyist wedding in Vegas

One thing that happened in Vegas last week certainly won't stay in Vegas: The lobbyists Lisa Harris Jones and Sean Malone were married there before about 100 well-wishers, who included some of Maryland's top government officials — including the...

  9. Mayor wrong to marry gay couples

It was extremely disappointing to read in The Sun that Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake is planning to preside over same-sex marriages on June 16 here in Baltimore ("Mayor will preside over mass wedding of gay couples," May 20). I, and many others, believe her decision to do so speaks volumes about her understanding — or lack of understanding — of the moral issues surrounding same-sex marriages.

  15. Marylanders should be proud of their EMS system

During the week of May 19-25, 2013, Maryland joins the rest of the nation in celebrating National Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week. I commend the Maryland EMS providers who respond every day of every month to emergency situations, making our statewide EMS and trauma system a national model for life-saving care. With Gov. Martin O'Malley's commitment to public safety and the well-being of all Maryland's citizens, he has recognized the accomplishments of EMS providers by designating Emergency Medical Services Week in Maryland.

  17. Let BGE investors pay for higher costs

In reference to the article, "BGE seeks rate increase on heels of last case" (May 17), BGE should be run like any other company. Every other company has to pass some of the cost to the stockholders, reducing quarterly earnings, for instance.

  21. Baltimore's investments in job creation

A strong and sustainable 21st century economy can only be built from the bottom up. And today, as President Barack Obama visits Baltimore, it is this fact that will drive us to join with him to renew a call for Congress to focus on common-sense investments that create middle-class job opportunities now and reward America's economic future.

  23. Maryland: A good state to be from, a bad place to live

In a recent column, Dan Rodricks essentially excoriated corporate CEOs for whining about Maryland ("Complaining CEOs need to take a hike," May 8). OK, he feels that they make too much money, that's his right, and it falls exactly in line with the thinking in the halls of both Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. It's those "greedy capitalists" again. When will they ever have enough?
