  1. Corporate welfare for Lockheed Martin

At this time of severe cutbacks in government funding for food stamps, early childhood education and Meals on Wheels, some Maryland legislators are hard at work looking out for the welfare of one of the world's wealthiest corporations. Under a bill advancing in the General Assembly, the Lockheed Martin Corp. would have the taxes on its luxurious Bethesda hotel and conference center reduced by approximately $450,000 a year. An earlier version of the legislation also included a $1.4 million refund for the period since 2010.

  7. Ordinary residents steamrolled again by the Maryland triumvirate

Once again, the Maryland General Assembly, in concert with Gov. Martin O'Malley, demonstrates its total lack of regard and disdain in representing the citizens of Maryland. "One Maryland," as the Governor O'Malley likes to call it, appears to refer only to the views of Prince George's and Montgomery counties and Baltimore City. Notice how blocks of votes are put together in order to advance the agenda of the governor, his political "machine" or these jurisdictions, no matter how the rest of the state weighs in?

  9. Md. needs a database on pesticides

What pesticides are Maryland families exposed to on a regular basis? Good luck finding out. There's simply no way for the average person to discover what chemicals are being applied to farm fields or even backyards.

Absent from the critical debate in Maryland over how to rein in health care spending has been a serious examination of the dangerous and expensive policies that some Maryland health insurers have enacted in the name of cost containment, and their potentially deleterious impact on patient health.
