  1. The Never-Ending, Totally Unwinnable Debate About Guns

I write this column basically every two years.
I write this column basically every two years. The only difference is that this time, I had perhaps my silliest RedEye column ever (that’s saying something) slated for the issue where the cover memorialized the twelve peopled killed (not to mention...

  3. Gun lobby fires up Obama fear

As with other mass shootings, Friday's killings at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., trigger a familiar chain of reactions: horror, remorse, rage and a call for new restrictions on guns.
As with other mass shootings, Friday's killings at a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., trigger a familiar chain of reactions: horror, remorse, rage and a call for new restrictions on guns. And in the recent past, at least, that call for action has been...

  5. Holder's Fast and Furious fiasco does not help PA's gun control crusade.

For CeaseFirePA, Pennsylvania's most strident gun control outfit, the timing of the Eric Holder mess could not be worse. When U.S. Attorney General Holder was held in contempt of Congress on Thursday, it put a spotlight on a fiasco — the federal...

  7. Letter to the Editor: July 2, 2012

Mr. Steve Devary recently sent in a letter expressing his dismay at Ben Chandler for joining with the Republicans and 15 or so other Democrats in voting to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress. He ended by asking for other views on this matter. Well, since he asked. That is one of the few things that Chandler ever did that I agree with. I too love this country, keep myself informed and loathe the divisions that are tearing this country apart. It seems to me that we are in another Cold War, not with Russia this time, but ourselves. The liberal view and the conservative view have become so polarized that nothing is being accomplished in the Federal Government.

  9. Congress does something while nobody's looking

A funny thing happened in Washington last week: Congress approved several significant pieces of legislation on bipartisan votes and hardly anybody seemed to notice — or care (which might just explain how so much work got done).

  11. 'Fast and Furious' Investigation Turns Out to Be Bullshit

I really don’t want to spend all my time on this blog pointing out the vulgar stupidity and ineptitude of the Republican Party, but it’s like shooting lay-ups or kicking twenty-yard field goals.

  15. Schiff should demand the truth

Re: “Schiff blasts House vote on gun issue,” June 24, Adam Schiff, from the comfort of his Washington office, released a condemning statement about a committee's contempt vote against Eric Holder. Terrific use of congressional pen and paper,...
