Peter T. King is a congressman, representing New York's 3rd Congressional District, which covers eastern Nassau County and parts of Suffolk County. King is the only Republican on Long Island's congressional delegation. King is the ranking member of the Homeland Security Committee and also serves on the Financial Services Committee.

King is rumored to be considering a run for governor in 2010 and had said that if Gov. David A. Paterson appointed Caroline Kennedy to fill Hillary Clinton's Senate seat, he would have run against her.

King was born in New York City in 1944 and is a graduate of St. Francis College, Brooklyn, and the University of Notre Dame Law School. Before being elected to Congress in 1992, he was elected Nassau County Comptroller three times. He and his wife Rosemary live in Seaford.
