  1. Clyde Judson Johnson, 82, of Chambersburg

    Clyde Judson Johnson, 82, of Chambersburg, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2013 in his home. Born July 23, 1930 in Johnstown, he is the son of the late Ralph Herbert and Loretta Izora Kunkle Johnson. A U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Johnson served honorably during the Korean Conflict and later with the Army Reserve and PA National Guard. Mr. Johnson graduated from Juniata College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. He also graduated from Penn State University with a Master's Degree in Music Education. In his early career, he taught music and served as a choral and band director in Centre County. Mr. Johnson was the Director of Continuing Education at Penn State Mont Alto from 1966 until his early retirement from Penn State in 1986. He then served as the Director of Public Relations for Quincy Retirement Village until 1993. In addition, Mr. Johnson served as the director of The Towne Singers, the Calvary United Methodist Church Chancel Choir and Gospel Singers, the Community Chorus, and the Rockview Penitentiary Chorus. He also performed in several theatrical productions at the Capitol Theatre including, The King and I, On Golden Pond, and Prisoner on Second Avenue. He actively served his church and in his retirement transported children for Lytle Transportation. Mr. Johnson also volunteered at nursing homes visiting residents with his beloved collie, Shane. He loved his family and pets deeply and his hobbies and interests included music, history and woodworking, where he was especially known for his handcrafted step stools. Surviving is his beloved wife of 59 years, Geraldine Isenberg Johnson, whom he married on June 19, 1954; four children: Timothy D. Johnson (Debra) of Chambersburg; Thomas M. Johnson of Corona, Calif.; Beth Ann Thoresen of Chambersburg; and Theodore J. Johnson (Theresa) of Brookville, Ohio; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three siblings: Donald Johnson of Somerset; Ruth Johnson of Akron, Ohio; and Jay Johnson of Chillicothe, Ohio. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Galen, Clark and Irene Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Calvary United Methodist Church, 150 Norlo Drive, Fayetteville, PA 17222, where Pastor Clyde DeShong will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday in the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will follow the service in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, where members of the Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will provide military honors. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Calvary United Methodist Church at the address above or the Animal Shelter of one's choice, or to the Capitol Theater, 159 S.
