Working around Yom Kippur, Florida's Public Service Commission on Thursday scheduled Sept. 27 and 28 to consider a proposed settlement Florida Power & Light reached with big power users.
FPL had reached a settlement with the Florida Industrial Power Users Group, Florida Hospital & Healthcare Association and other parties before the rate hearing began two weeks ago. But the Office of Public Counsel, Florida Retail Federations and others say the settlement is a bad deal for consumers.
But Chairman Ronald Brise said he had considered Yom Kippur in selecting the dates, but offered to consider a later starting time.
Parties also have concerns about whether they'll be able to consider the testimony in FPL's rate case presented in the past two weeks when considering the settlement. Debate was still going on about that at 6 p.m. Thursday is likely to be a long night for the PSC.
