5. Earl Weaver's chance at revenge with Billy Martin

When I was putting together my story on Earl Weaver after his death Friday night I knew I wanted to talk to Jim Henneman, the former Sun baseball beat writer and current Orioles official scorer who is our unofficial beat historian. All of us Sun writers look up to Henny and love hearing the stories of the Orioles’ glory days.

  7. Weaver's relationship with Palmer had its friction, but plenty of respect

For all the years that they did battle in the clubhouse or the sports pages or on the dais of some charity roast, Jim Palmer knew how Earl Weaver</runtime:link> really felt about him. That's why he had to hold back tears Saturday when he related his favorite memory of the Earl of Baltimore — a memory made more poignant because it also involved his late teammate Mike Flanagan.

  13. Some random Orioles thoughts (Flanagan, Ripken, Mussina, Dauer, Flaherty, Marin)

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the death of Mike Flanagan at his home in Monkton. He would be 60 years old. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Suicide is an exceptionally difficult issue for survivors to deal with. From my personal experience, that first-year anniversary is a real difficult day. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Orioles have a moment of silence in honor of Flanny’s memory tonight.
