Of all the insulting misconceptions spread since Northern Illinois qualified for the Orange Bowl, the most uninformed suggests the Huskies will use the unfair opinions of the Kirk Herbstreits of the college football world for motivation.

7. UConn, And Its Supporters, Must Make The Program Bigger

The Hartford Courant
If you ever have been on the Duke campus, you have appreciated the dramatic illustration of Gothic architecture known as the Crowell Quad Clock Tower. Well, forget it, Connecticut. You didn't get such an elegant introduction to Wednesday morning from the...

9. Times college football rankings: Five California schools make the list

Rankman has rarely been this excited about two recently "dropped out" teams playing on a Thursday night in Piscataway, N.J. The showdown between Rutgers and Louisville now features two teams representing three different conferences. Rutgers is joining the Big Ten in 2014 and Louisville just announced it is leaving the Big East for the Atlantic Coast. The Big East doesn't bother these days to stitch member names on its lettermen's sweaters — it uses Velcro. There is so much upheaval and mediocrity at the bottom of these rankings that Slippery Rock made it to the second-to-final cut. Five schools from California cracked the list but uthere was no room at the Top-25 Inn for hobos USC and California. Also, note the team at No. 20. This is the highest Rankman has been on Utah State since he used to put beer on ice in the sink while lodging at the Logan Motel Baugh.

11. USC idle; Lane Kiffin still center of attention

Unbuckling the mailbag:
Unbuckling the mailbag: Question: The temptation to cheat grows in proportion to Lane Kiffin's failures. Why does Pat Haden plan on keeping him? Matt McKillop Answer: Kiffin doesn't need to cheat to win. Players are not USC's problem. The Trojans had...

13. A wide range of opponents could be possible for the Gators in the Sugar Bowl

GAINESVILLE — While the Florida Gators are on track for the Sugar Bowl, their opponent could run the gamut.
GAINESVILLE — While the Florida Gators are on track for the Sugar Bowl, their opponent could run the gamut. Current bowl projections pit the No. 4 Gators against No. 11 Oklahoma on Jan. 2 in New Orleans. But following a number of high-stakes...

15. Tom Z's Highly Unethical College Football Gambling Picks: Conference Championship Weekend

We’ve reached the last “real” week of the college football season. And while Conference Championship Weekend should be a joyous occasion, I can’t help but feel sad that another season is nearly in the books. Sure, there are bowl...

17. Tom Z's Highly Unethical College Football Gambling Picks: Army-Navy and the Heisman Trophy

Well, the season is over. It ended somewhat anti-climactically with a predictable Kansas State win, a mediocre showing by Florida State against an inferior opponent, and a highly questionable decision that kept Georgia from playing for the title. (Spike the damn ball!) While it sucks that we won’t get to enjoy college football Saturdays for eight more months, at least we get to witness bowl season, one of the greatest experiences in sports. Yeah, college football’s method of choosing a champion is suspect, but you can’t beat having three straight weeks with a bowl game nearly every night. I’ll take a Baylor-UCLA Holiday Bowl over a rerun of “Revolution” or some reality show about screaming old hags any day. Not that I would watch screaming hags or “Revolution” normally. Unless they somehow combined them into one show, where people with bows hunted down the Real Housewives. That I would definitely watch. Wait, what were we talking about? Ah yes. I will admit that this year’s bowl lineup seems weaker than usual, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see some competitive and exciting games in the coming weeks.

23. Teel Time: How should ACC respond to Maryland's Big Ten move?

For someone who grew up watching Howard White, Randy White and Lefty Driesell compete in the ACC, seeing the University of Maryland leave the conference for the Big Ten is illogical if not blasphemous. But realignment scoffs at tradition, projected television revenue turns heads and we move on.
