  1. Navy tries to right its ship against Rutgers

Just as motorists taking a wrong turn off the New Jersey Turnpike can get lost when they come here, the Navy football team has had its own share of misadventures when playing at Rutgers. The last time the Midshipmen beat the Scarlet Knights on their home field was 1999, and there have been four subsequents defeats — by six, 21, 10 and 17 points.

  3. Blocked field-goal try helps seal Navy's 21-20 loss to Rutgers

Navy wasn't as angry after Saturday's 21-20 loss to Rutgers as it was after its one-point overtime defeat at home against heated rival Air Force and was not as embarrassed as after a 28-point demolition by Southern Mississippi last week in Annapolis. Nor did the Midshipmen seem to be suffering from the same kind of letdown they had after last month's three-point defeat at then-No. 10 South Carolina.

  5. Navy's losing streak tests its leadership skills

Ken Niumatalolo has often said during his four seasons as Navy's head coach that developing leadership skills is more important for his players than winning football games. It was hard to tell during Niumatalolo's first three years whether the Midshipmen had their priorities right, considering that they won 27 games.

  7. Navy loses fifth straight, 38-35, as ECU QB breaks consecutive completion record

For much of the first three quarters Saturday against East Carolina, Navy seemed to repeat a month-long struggle with pass defense by turning Pirates quarterback Dominique Davis into a NCAA record-breaker.

  9. With Proctor's injury, Miller likely to get start for Navy vs. Notre Dame

While Navy listed either Kriss Proctor or Trey Miller as the starting quarterback on its football depth chart going into Saturday's game at Notre Dame, the sling Proctor was wearing to support his left arm at practice Monday in Annapolis seemed to indicate where the decision was headed.

  11. Navy runs new option with rabbi

Seth "Buzz" Phillips was about to turn 40, living with his first wife and their two sons in Naples, Fla., when a recruiting postcard from the Navy chaplain corps arrived. Recalling the results of an aptitude test he had taken as a student at Penn State more than two decades earlier, Phillips and his wife signed up.

The courtship between the Big East and the Navy football program was made public last fall, but league and academy officials said Tuesday that the mutual wooing went on for the better part of a decade.

  15. Despite injuries, Tuani has left his mark on Navy

The scene that played out before Navy began football practice Monday afternoon in Annapolis was different than other moments during the past four years when Jabaree Tuani tried to motivate his teammates.

  19. Navy has no answers for Notre Dame in a 56-14 rout by Irish

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — There was no talk about the end of Navy’s two-game winning streak over Notre Dame, or of the recent stretch of dominance by the Midshipmen that included three victories in four years over the Fighting Irish after decades of football famine.

  21. Army-Navy is 'more than a game' for each side

For most of the past eight seasons, the Army-Navy game seemed to carry more significance for the Black Knights than for the Midshipmen. Except for last year's game in Philadelphia, when both teams had winning records and post-season plans, this traditional end-of-season matchup was Army's bowl game.

  23. CBS-Showtime pays tribute to Navy/Army football with 'A Game of Honor'

Duty, service and honor are big words. They are also ones that are often abused these days by Washington politicians who thank each other for their "service" even as they sink deeper into partisan gridlock.
