1. Chiefs' Branden Albert, a Glen Burnie grad, is ready to face Ravens

As the member of a family with deep roots in sports — including a few cousins who tried out for the NFL — Ashley Sims was familiar with witnessing feats of athleticism. But his eyes were opened when, as a 22-year-old junior defensive end at Maryland, he returned to his mother's home in Rochester, N.Y., and saw his 11-year-old brother — whom Sims estimated stood at 5 feet 4 inches and weighed 220 pounds — doing backflips.

  3. Jeff Zrebiec's scouting report: Ravens vs. Chiefs

RAVENS PASSING GAME: Behind quarterback Joe Flacco and a multidimensional group of receivers highlighted by Anquan Boldin and Torrey Smith, the Ravens are averaging 310.3 passing yards per game, the fourth-highest total in the NFL. Six players have eight catches or more. The Ravens have produced an NFL-best 24 passing plays of 20 yards or more. Flacco, who has gotten just about everybody involved, has thrown three interceptions compared with seven touchdown passes.

  5. Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata proves a little weight gain doesn't have to slow him down

Ravens defensive tackle Haloti Ngata had mapped out an ambitious plan, albeit one not readily apparent when he lumbered onto the practice field for a June minicamp.

  7. Tamba Hali will keep the Ravens' offense on alert

The pass-rushing prowess of Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowl outside linebacker Tamba Hali tends to put an offense on high alert. Although Hali has only generated nine tackles and one sack this season, the Ravens haven't forgotten how much trouble he gave...

  9. Ravens could attack middle of the Chiefs' offensive line

The Kansas City Chiefs, the Ravens’ opponent this Sunday, boast the top-ranked run offense in the NFL. But the very foundation of that ground attack could also be their area of vulnerability.

  11. Breaking down Sunday's Ravens-Chiefs game in Kansas City with K.C. Star reporter Adam Teicher

Every week, I hope to bring you a quick Q&A with someone who covers the Ravens’ opponent that week. On Sunday, the Ravens will take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium. Adam Teicher covers the Chiefs for The Kansas City Star, and he was kind enough to answer a few of my questions heading into the game.

  15. Ravens preparing for the Chiefs' Matt Cassel to be under center

Despite reports out of Kansas City that Matt Cassel could lose his starting job – or at least a few snaps – to backup Brady Quinn, the Ravens intend to prepare as if Cassel will be the starting quarterback for Sunday’s game.

Every morning, Monday through Friday, blogger Matt Vensel will hook you up with reading material -- mostly on the Ravens but with some other Baltimore sports stuff, too -- to skim through as you slug down coffee and slack off at the start of your workday. 23. Ravens news, notes and opinions

With the Ravens’ defense uncharacteristically struggling through the first four weeks, there has been plenty of finger pointing from fans and the media. Cornerbacks Cary Williams and Jimmy Smith have caught a lot of the blame and outside linebackers Paul Kruger and rookie Courtney Upshaw have received their share as well. But one guy that hasn’t gotten a lot of criticism – at least that I’ve heard – is Pernell McPhee. Big things were expected out of the second-year defensive end who was second on the Ravens last year with six sacks and led all Ravens’ rookies with 23 tackles in a part-time role. After the departure of Cory Redding, McPhee stepped into a starting spot but there has yet to be a spike in his production. Through four games, McPhee has a half sack and nine tackles. He was credited with two quarterback hits in last Thursday’s victory over the Cleveland Browns, so perhaps that’s a good sign. The Ravens badly need to get a pass rush from their front four, or specifically from somebody other than Haloti Ngata. Some of that falls on McPhee and the Ravens could also use a little more out of defensive end Arthur Jones and nose tackle Terrence Cody in their roles as well.
