1. Kevin Wilson already establishes a head coaching style at Indiana

For players, the notion itself seems very unusual.

For players, the notion itself seems very unusual. They've seen him organize meetings, lead practice, set a tone in workouts, and create an overall direction in the football program. Ted Bolser just wouldn't think that this would be the work of someone...

3. Following his brother's path

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Jay Gruden has his older brother's voice, and their eyes have the same steely glint. Jay is bigger, has darker hair and more of a twisted smile than a sinister "Chucky" grimace. "Jon's more edgy, grouchier too. Meaner," said the...

7. Fantasy Fodder: Taking stock after deadline deals

Carson Palmer will be a hot commodity on the waiver wire this week after the Cincinnati Bengals traded him to the Oakland Raiders for a pair of high draft picks. I can't imagine that someone in your fantasy league already has Palmer on his or her roster...

9. Ravens news, notes and opinions

Of the Ravens’ final 11 games, four of them will be played against teams with first-year starting quarterbacks. That includes the two games against the Cincinnati Bengals and their rookie signal-caller Andy Dalton, the game against the Curtis Painter-led Indianapolis Colts and Monday night’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert. It does not include the Oct. 30 Arizona Cardinals tilt, though it easily could because Kevin Kolb is essentially an undisputed starter for the first time in his career. Another two will be played against the Cleveland Browns and their struggling second-year quarterback Colt McCoy. And then there are the games against the Seattle Seahawks, who will likely start Tarvaris Jackson, and the San Francisco 49ers, who barring an injury will start Alex Smith. Both Jackson and Smith have been maligned throughout their young careers. All of what I just mentioned is a long way of saying that the Ravens will face two elite quarterbacks – the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Ben Roethlisberger and the San Diego Chargers Philip Rivers – the rest of the regular season. That, more than anything, is why I think the Ravens will wind up winning more games than most people originally expected. We all know the “Any Given Sunday” cliches, but the Ravens have been feasting on young and unproven quarterbacks for years. The Jets’ Mark Sanchez and the Rams’ Sam Bradford were added to that list already this season. With how aggressive defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano has been and how well the Ravens have shut down the run, it’s very hard to envision some of these quarterbacks having any extended success against this defense.

17. Previewing the 2011 Indiana Hoosiers

There is a hallowed football tradition in Bloomington at the beginning of every school year. No, I'm not talking about a march of the players down a main road in campus. It's not a huge pep rally held by the students at Memorial Stadium. The Hoosiers' tradition does not revolve around sacred trees like Auburn or stickers on their helmets like Ohio State. This pastime involves a magnet and eager students.

23. NFL Week 10: Will doing the picks in Philly help?

Groller's Corner
Here in Philadelphia this Sunday morning. Wonder if doing the NFL picks in an NFL stadium will help my accuracy. Doubt it, but it can't hurt. Dismal week last week. 9-5 outright, 6-8 against the spread and 5-9 on the over/under totals. Was so distracted...
