  1. BCS Championship: Tale of the tape

Everything about the BCS championship between No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 2 Alabama seems larger than life. Not only do these schools stand among the best ever in college football, they also lead the pack in celebrating that success and in investing for...

Motivation can come from the most unlikely of circumstances. Who would have ever guessed that a seating chart would have had an impact on the Notre Dame football team's 1977 national championship? Cotton Bowl week in Dallas. This was only supposed to be...

  9. Tommy Rees

<span style="font-size: small;">April&rsquo;s Notre Dame Spring Blue-Gold game was the 30th I have worked and about the 40th I have attended, and still there was a first. It was the first time I have ever heard a player booed at the spring game, which is no more than a glorified scrimmage. The player was quarterback Tommy Rees. I couldn&rsquo;t believe it, but maybe if I had spent a little more time on line reading various Notre Dame fan forums I could have easily believed it. &nbsp; Then again I would rather have a root canal than spend a lot of time on line reading fan forums, because some of these people are not exactly real fans. They are either overly-possessed about Notre Dame football or, in a minority of cases, hate anything and everything Notre Dame.</span>

  19. Joe Flacco has become a star despite derision of Baltimore media

<a href="http://bio.tribune.com/MikePreston">Mike Preston</a> has taken every chance to knock Joe Flacco since he was drafted five seasons ago ("Ravens shouldn't overreact when it's time to pay Flacco" Feb. 25). He says it's not him, it's Jacoby Jones or Anquan Boldin who made the plays. Joe has to have "ideal conditions." Did he ever look at John Unitas' offense with three Hall of Famers, or Joe Montana's offense with Jerry Rice and coach Bill Walsh? Every quarterback who succeeds has a great supporting cast.
