  3. Revolution Offense Wakes Up to Even Series 1-1

    The York Revolution offense came to life while the pitching maintained its dominant form, and it all worked together in a 9-0 victory over the Long Island Ducks in Game 2 of the Atlantic League Championship Series in front of 4,605 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY on Thursday evening. With the series now even at 1-1, the Revs return home to close out the season with Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary), needing two victories to win a second consecutive championship. Game 3 is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Ramon Castro homered, tripled, and drove in five to lead the offensive attack. Chris Nowak also went yard as part of a four-hit night, and Val Majewski connected on a two-run homer, while Lorenzo Barcelo went six innings combining on the Revs' second postseason shutout in club history. Majewski opened the scoring in the top of the second with his two-run shot to right-center, off the glove of the leaping Lew Ford who was attempting to keep it in the park. It provided the Revs with their first multi-run lead in the first nine innings of a game since Game 2 of the Freedom Division Championship Series, and their first multi-run lead prior to the seventh inning of the entire postseason. Castro slammed a three-run blast to left-center an inning later, beyond the reach of Ford who climbed the wall attempting to bring it back. Three pitches later, Nowak crushed a solo shot to left increasing the lead to 6-0 and chasing starter Josh Banks, who allowed six runs and failed to get out of the third inning for the second time in as many postseason starts. The back-to-back homeruns were the second in the Revs' postseason history; Ian Bladergroen and Erold Andrus teamed up to accomplish the feat in a victory over Bridgeport in Game 2 of last year's Championship Series. Castro lined a two-run triple to left-center past the diving Ford in the top of the sixth, and scored on an error by third baseman Matt Padgett to cap the scoring. Castro's five-RBI game came after being held to just one RBI in the first six postseason games. Nowak's 4-for-5 game occurred after being held to just three hits previously in six playoff games. Majewski's two RBI were his first two of the playoffs. All three players hit their first homeruns of the postseason for the Revs who, as a team, had only three round-trippers in their previous six playoff contests. Barcelo struck out five and left the bases loaded in the fourth and sixth innings, earning the win and improving to 6-1 in a York uniform including the regular season. Sean Stidfole (1.1 innings), Kris Regas (0.2 innings), and Michael Nix (1.0 inning) combined to finish the shutout. Notes: Castro's five RBI are the second most in a playoff game in team history behind only Bladergroen's six RBI performance in Game 2 of the Championship Series vs. Bridgeport last season. The only other shutout win in Revs postseason play came in Game 5 of last year's Freedom Division Championship Series when York edged Somerset 1-0. It tied the largest margin of victory for the Revs in a postseason game, along with a 10-1 win over Somerset in their playoff opener last season. It marked the first time this postseason that the Revs haven't trailed in a game, and snapped a streak of five consecutive games in which the opponent had scored first. Nowak has now hit eight homeruns against Long Island in 16 games this season, with seven of those coming in ten games at Bethpage Ballpark. York's Jino Gonzalez (0-1, 5.06) will face Long Island's Bob Zimmermann (1-0, 0.00) in Game 3 of the series on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
