  21. Bruce's Blog: New York, New York!

Madison Square Garden is undergoing a much needed renovation. They may call it the ‘World’s Greatest Arena’, but it isn’t the best looking one.  The turquoise and mauve seats have got to go, but there is a real aura to the place.  There are two things that set The Garden apart, other than being in mi-town Manhattan. The building has the best lighting I’ve ever see. Everything is centered on the floor, making it look much more like a stage than a basketball court. Their video boards are HD and the pregame production on them is incredible. It’s the only arena I’ve ever been in that introduces itself, before it does the team’s starting lineups.  They do this with dramatic but not overpowering music under quickly cut images of New York City, and then used shots of the headliners who’ve played this hallowed place over the decades. Throw in narration from the late Howard Cosell-- and you’ve got a production straight off Broadway. It’s very effective.
