  1. Late goal saves the day for U.S. women's soccer team

MANCHESTER, England — "That," Carli Lloyd said, "was crazy."
MANCHESTER, England — "That," Carli Lloyd said, "was crazy." Even for a team that has made last-second goals, overtime heroics and nail-biting finishes commonplace, Lloyd and the U.S. soccer team's 4-3 overtime victory over Canada in the Olympic...

  10. America's women grab soccer gold; Hope Solo makes leaping saves

On a rollicking night when England's sporting cathedral swelled with their relentlessness, the USA women's soccer team didn't simply gain revenge.
    Los Angeles Times

  12. Social Olympics

Anyone else feeling like they've got a case of "Olympics-overload"? Traditionally, the two week event's been a time for people from all over the world, to put their differences aside, and come together for some good clean competition! Our kumbaya moment, if you will. Thanks to Twitter, however, we're seeing a different, and somewhat darker side, of the Olympics. Techcrunch.com is calling this the first "Social Olympics." Last week, there were more Tweets in a single day than the entire 17-day event in Beijing in 2008. Spectators are now spec-Tweeters and competitors are no longer shining symbols of athletic ability, but whining brats with a serious lack of judgement. From Greek triple jumper, Voula Papachristou, whose racist Tweet got her expelled from the games this year, to athletes complaining about rules they don't like, or U.S. women's soccer goalkeeper, Hope Solo,  blasting former player Brandi Chastain for her commentary skills. To be fair, many athletes have played it safe, Tweeting only to thank their followers and supporters. The most surprising social trend? Hating on NBC. The most popular hashtag from the entire Olympic event... #NBCFail. People hate the tape delay, in 140 characters or less! We can't wait for Rio in 2016. Twitter will be on fire! Considering how the I.O.C. chooses Olympic events maybe, Tweeting will be a gold-medal competition!

  16. Schmitt emerges from Phelps' shadow

As a kid, Allison Schmitt's sport was soccer. She even had a Mia Hamm Barbie doll. If she imagined back then that she would find herself at the Olympics someday, it would have been as a teammate of Hope Solo and Alex Morgan.
