  21. Robert L. Rice Sr., 87

    Robert Lee Rice Sr., 87, died peacefully Thursday, April 26, 2012, with family members by his side at Cape Canaveral Hospital, Fla. He was of the Protestant faith. He was born April 3, 1925, in Pinesburg, Md., Washington County. He came to live in Brevard County, Fla., in 2005. He was the son of the late Oscar Lucien and Mary Ann (Null) Rice.He retired from the U.S. Navy in May 1963, having served 20 years of active duty. He then served 10 years in the U.S. Navy Fleet Reserve, serving a total of 30 years.He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II and other wars and conflicts, including the Korean and Vietnam wars, from July 1943 to May 1963, worldwide and in the South Pacific, with seven battle stars and a President Unit Citation with two stars.  He was employed by the Maryland Correctional Institution for 21 1/2 years, and retired from there in June 1985. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Belle Armes (William “Bill”) of Cocoa, Fla., and Donna Marie Boward of Martinsburg, W.Va.; one son, Robert Lee Rice Jr. (Paula) of Greencastle, Pa.; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by one daughter, Gail Darlene Wiebrecht; three sons, James Leroy Rice, Richard Lee Rice and Gary Lee Rice; three sisters, Elise and Thelma, who died at a young age, and Mary Edith Trabert.A memorial service for family and friends will be Friday, June 1, 2012, at 3 p.m. at Fulk Pavilion at War Memorial Park, Tennessee Avenue, Martinsburg. He will be greatly missed by all.
