11. Go ahead, play with the goblins of Utah

GOBLIN VALLEY, Utah — "The goblins will get ya if ya don't watch out!" wrote poet James Whitcomb Riley in 1885, probably just about the time that cowboys searching for cattle in southern Utah stumbled into this extraordinary collection of sandstone formations that eerily resemble goblins. The goblins may not have gotten the cowboys, but they have been drawing visitors ever since.

  19. Derby earns third consecutive state berth

The Garden City softball team could not have asked for better circumstances while competing for a 2013 state tournament berth. With a regular season record of 16-3 the Lady Buffs earned the No. 2 overall seed for the regional tournament. That meant a home field advantage as well as bypassing the top-seed Wichita Northwest and powerhouses such as Maize and Heights until state. However, a group of determined Derby Lady Panthers with a No. 5 seed came out firing and proved that strength of schedule is more important than records. Derby defeated Garden City in the 6A South Central regional championship game 14-6.
