  1. So Much For An Officer And A Gentleman

    The Hartford Courant
When David Petraeus' admirers refer to him as one of the nation's most distinguished and venerable military leaders, why do I get the sense that what they really mean is that he'd never be dishonorable enough to lie to a man? Because it's clear that...

  3. Should CIA Director David Petraeus have stayed and fought?

The fallout continues from CIA Director David Petraeus' startling resignation last week. Questions have been raised about its timing -- after Election Day, and before Petraeus was scheduled to testify before Congress about the CIA's actions during a Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans. But should Petraeus have even quit? Infidelity is prohibited in the military, but there's no law against affairs in civilian life. President Clinton didn't resign after his affair was discovered. Some argue that Petraeus should have stayed on. But others say that as the head of the CIA, he exposed himself to blackmail and threatened national security by engaging in an affair. What do you think? Talk about it!

Like a set of Russian dolls, in which each doll contains a slightly smaller version of itself hidden inside, the sex scandal that forced CIA Director David Petraeus from office last week seems full of secret compartments that have yet to be revealed.

If Paula Broadwell is David H. Petraeus' mistress, what is he to her? Biography subject, sure. Boyfriend, maybe. But what's the male equivalent of "mistress"? The growing cast of extremely prolific characters (30,000 pages of email!) in the Petraeus...

  9. Keeping a lid on the Petraeus affair

Past CIA officers have been known to withhold information about questionable activities so presidents could have "plausible deniability." In the matter of retired Gen. David Petraeus' career-killing extramarital affair, President Barack Obama is stuck with a deniable plausibility.
