13. Connecticut's Sushi Renaissance: Where to Get Great Sushi Around Hartford & New Haven

Connecticut is experiencing a Japanese renaissance. That's easy to see in greater Hartford, where a Hibachi restaurant just moved into Prospect Plaza, Umi in Blue Back Square has brought conveyor belt sushi to the region, and the line at Ichiban was practically out the door on an otherwise dead and frigid Sunday night in the West End. In New Haven, chef Ming Lau of Miso says the resurgence is a good decade old, and customers are increasingly discovering the sinfully high-end Chef Tasting service, in which a chef panders to a customer's personal tastes.

  15. The Steel Wheels Perform in New Haven and Collinsville This Week

The Steel Wheels are a rootsy/Americana band out of Virginia, full of energy and enough harmonies to fill any music lover with delight. Luckily for us Connecticritters, the band is playing two shows here this week: the first, on Nov. 16 at New Haven's Cafe Nine, and then on Nov. 17 at Bridge Street Live in Collinsville. The band is on tour in support of its latest album Lay Down, Lay Low, and have chosen to support a school in the communities where they're playing on this tour. The chosen schools for the Connecticut dates are Hill Central School in New Haven and Cherry Brook Primary School in Canton.
