  23. Robert Alton "Quincy" Walter, 82, of Goode, Va., formerly of Jennerstown and Ligonier

    Robert Alton "Quincy" Walter, 82, of Goode, Va., formerly of Jennerstown and Ligonier, died July 2, 2012 due to a violent auto accident in Manning, S.C. He was born Aug. 19, 1929 in Jennerstown, son of the late Charles and Esther Rosella (Allison) Walter. Survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, the former Ruth "Mimi" Syphrit; son Craig and fianc&eacute; Crystal Maston, Goode, Va.; daughter Kara married to Glen Farnsworth, Weston, Fla.; and grandchildren Briana, Ciara and Blake Farnsworth. After graduating in 1947 from Somerset High School, he was employed by the Boswell Lumber Company for 31 years. In 1977 he and his family moved to Waynesboro, where they constructed, owned and operated the Skateland Roller Skating Rink for 23 years. In 2000 Quincy and Mimi retired to Goode, Va. with a desire to continue boating at Smith Mountain Lake. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jennerstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry K. Ritenour presiding. Interment Jennerstown Lutheran Cemetery. A celebration of Quincy's life will be held at a later date in Goode, Va. and Waynesboro. Arrangements by Hoffman Funeral Home &amp; Cremation Services, Boswell. In lieu of flowers donations in Quincy's memory may be sent to Gideon's International, 716 Battery Dr., Roanoke, VA 24001.
