Oak Park

Oak Park, Ill., is located in Cook County just west of the Chicago border. In 1837, Joseph Kettlestrings, a native of England, bought 172 acres of land in the area. The town became known as Oak Park in 1871 after first being called Oak Ridge, and the "Village of Oak Park" came into being in 1902. Its population in the 2003 census was 50,824. Famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright built his home in Oak Park in 1889, and many of his buildings still exist throughout the suburb. Oak Park is also the birthplace of writer Ernest Hemingway.
