The LaPorte County School Corporation says an independent attorney conducted an investigation for the school district and cleared a coach and administrator, even though they still face criminal charges filed in a sex case.

Former assistant volleyball coach Robert Ashcraft was convicted for having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl on the volleyball team. The prosecutor says a coach and administrator – Ed Gilliland and Mary Beth Lebo – helped cover up the relationship.

Gilliland and Lebo are now being allowed back to work.

A judge earlier this month said the charges will stand, and Gilliland and Lebo will go to trial. WSBT checked with court this morning and the charges are still on.
