Construction is under way on one of our area's busiest roads.

A section of Capital Avenue is shut down, and that may be the case until the end of the month.

Indiana's Department of Transportation plans closed a half mile stretch of Capital Avenue in Mishawaka between Lincoln Way and 12th street.  This work will allow Norfolk Southern crews to relocate the nearby railroad tracks as part of the new Capital Avenue widening project.

Neighbors who rely on the road aren't thrilled, but agree it's part of making everything better.

“This has been a pretty long going project,” said neighbor Dianna Cullens. “We have had a lot of closures, a lot of times we have had to go out of our way, but this Is the last one and we are almost there and the outcome is going to be fantastic.”

This road closing is supposed to wrap up September 28. That's a week from Friday. We'll keep you updated on anything that may cause delays to that schedule.
